Great band, great song.

The XX - Do You Mind

Do you mind if I take you home tonight,
stay another day,
if that’s okay,
tell me baby,
would you mind if I take you home with me,
where no one can see,
so don’t be shy

One of my favorite songs!  I saw Metric perform live at the Hollywood Palladium.  Great band, great show!

Gold Guns Girls // Metric

I don’t wanna bend
Let the bad girls bend

I’ve had Metric on repeat in my iPod the past few days, and I’ve been thinking about posting some of the lyrics to this song, specifically.

All the lace and the skin in the shop
Couldn’t get you off
All the toys and the tools in the box
Couldn’t get you off

Shark Week doesn’t excite me…

Hanging out at the beach with some friends yesterday, I encountered a friend of a friend who was absolutely raving about shark week.  For some reason, I think I’m the only one who could care less about sharks or ocean based reality shows and I’d rather watch the survival type shows like Man Vs. Wild.  Anyhow, as this guy was going on and on about how awesome sharks are, I interrupted him and said, “You know what I’d love to see… I’d like to see them throw a shark into a shallow pool filled with salmon and then introduce a Grizzly bear into the mix - I bet the bear would totally tear that shark apart!”  Needless to say, we instantly bonded at how awesome that would be.

Dear Bissell easyvac, It’s difficult to say this, but you’re no longer wanted around here anymore. It’s not you, I’m sure someone will love you for what you are, but I really need more power, agility and suction in my apartment, so I’ve replaced you with a Dyson. Don’t be mad, it’s been a good run, but this is L.A. How could you not expect me to trade-up? I mean seriously, I bought you at Walmart for like $35.00! Plus, you suck at sucking! Did you really think you would be in my life forever? Anyhow, I’m going to give you away to the first person on Craigslist that wants to come and pick it up. I hope they’ll provide a good home for you… well, for a little while at least, until they decide to trade up too. Best of luck to you! Your former owner.

Anecdote of the Day: Negative Double Positive

thedailywhat:

Based on a true story:

An MIT linguistics professor was lecturing his class the other day. “In English,” he said, “a double negative forms a positive. However, in some languages, such as Russian, a double negative remains a negative. But there isn’t a single language, not one, in which a double positive can express a negative.”

A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”

When I was 5 years old, my mom always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wrote down “happy.”  They told me I didn’t understand the assignment and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

The Space Shuttle Atlantis appears almost infinitesimally small photographed in silhouette during a solar transit — in other words, when passing between the sun and the Earth — on May 12, 2009. Beyond the sheer scale of what we’re seeing (and it’s worth remembering that somewhere around 1,000,000 Earths would fit inside our sun), this picture is just eerily beautiful.
